We are introduced to Jacob inside the statue, working on a loom. He then goes outside and catches a red herring. He offers some to his brother, who joins him, but he declines. They discuss the Black Rock looming on the horizon and how much Jacob's brother wants to kill him.

"Be good, Katie."

In a flashback, a young Kate Austen attempts to steal a lunchbox from a store. She and Tom are caught, but Jacob offers to pay for the lunchbox. Kate thanks him, and he tells her to be good, before tapping her on the nose.

"Need a pen, son?"

At his parents' funeral age 8, James Ford begins writing his letter to Anthony Cooper. Jacob appears and offers him a pen to write with. After he leaves, Uncle Doug tells James not to write the letter.

"I'm a little lost."

In LA, Jacob asks Sayid for directions. As Sayid points him in the right direction, Nadia is run over by a car. Sayid is mortified, however Jacob seems unaffected.

"I'm here because I need your help."

Ilana is in a Russian hospital, covered in bandages for what looks like burns. Jacob arrives and is obviously familiar with Ilana, as he asks for her help.

"I'm sorry this happened to you."

Outside a tall building, Jacob reads a book. Suddenly, a body falls down from the building behind him. While onlookers panic, Jacob calmly makes his was to the man, who turns out to be Locke. He touches him on his shoulder and apologizes for what has happened.

"Your love is a very special thing. Never take it for granted."

Jacob arrives at Sun and Jin's wedding. In perfect Korean, he blesses them, before departing, leaving the newlywed couple baffled over who he was.

"I guess all it needed was a little push."

We see Christian teach Jack the count-to-5 calming method. Jack tries to get an Apollo bar out of the machine, but it gets stuck. He confronts his dad about embarassing him, then Jacob gives Jack his Apollo bar.

"You're not crazy."

After he is released from prison, Hurley meets Jacob in the back of a taxi. Jacob tells Hurley that he's not crazy and gives him a guitar case.

"What about you."

Ben and Locke arrive in Jacob's room. Ben confronts Jacob about ignoring him, then after he replies unsympathetically, Jacob is stabbed by Ben. He warns Locke that "they're coming", then Locke pushes him into the fire.
